The HYPE about Hyperbaric

Bounce Matters in Manly was the first clinic to bring mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy (mHBOT) to the public north of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.  That was 7 years ago, after seeing it’s benefits in all aspects of brain health & recovery while training in the USA with the Institute of Functional Medicine and the International Hyperbaric Association, Jo couldn’t understand why nobody here was bringing it to us, so she did!

According to Dr Jason Sonners, author of “Oxygen Under Pressure”, also board member of The International Hyperbaric Association and trainer for the International Board of Undersea Medicine – “Hyperbaric Oxygen Cures Nothing but HELPS Everything” !!!  And here at Bounce Matters, we see this every day.

In our busy lives, we often overlook one of the simplest yet most vital aspects of our health: OXYGEN / O2. If you want to reduce inflammation, increase the rate of healing, improve your immune system, maybe even reverse ageing, restoring health from the cellular level, with mild hyperbaric oxygen and hydrogen therapy (mHBOT) is quite possibly just what you need.

What Is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?

With pressures & oxygen percentages ranging from mild (1.1ATA at 23% O2) to medical grade (up to 3.0ATA at 100% O2), breathing oxygen under pressure, even as little as 1.04ATA, can improve oxygen delivery via your plasma to your cells, especially to those tissues with little blood flow, such as the brain and connective tissue like tendons, and ligaments. Unlike the intense hyperbaric treatments used for medical emergencies or deep-sea divers, mHBOT uses lower pressures, making it safer, more comfortable, convenient and affordable for regular use, outside of a medical setting.

How It Works:

Across decades of scientific research, the peer reviewed & supported mechanisms of action, show every level of HBOT to produce the following actions at various levels over various time frames of treatment;

  • Increase oxygen delivery to all cells

Here in Australia, we only have a handful of approved uses for hyperbaric therapy, however in the USA, their Food & Drug Administration (FDA who approve medications and medical devices) has approved it for the following health issues;

  • Arterial Gas Embolism
  • Decompression Sickness (divers with the Bends)
  • Arterial Insufficiencies – enhancing healing of selected wounds
  • Carbon monoxide poisoning
  • Crush Injury / compartment syndrome
  • Compromised skin grafts / surgical wounds
  • Delayed radiation Injury (from oncology radiation treatment)
  • Some types of sudden hearing loss
  • Necrotizing soft tissue Infections
  • Thermal burn injuries
  • Severe Anemia

In Russia and China, even more health conditions are indicated, particularly in the cardiovascular medicine space.

Be aware these things all take time, mHBOT is all about concentration and time, not much changes in a single session!  And more severe damage WILL require higher pressures and higher oxygen levels.

Your AirPod Experience

At Bounce Matters, we use the AirPod to deliver both mHBOT and hydrogen therapy. Here’s what you can expect:

The AirPod is a hard-shell chamber that creates a relaxing and meditative space for you to read, listen to your favorite podcast, or catch a sneaky nap in the middle of your day, where for a moment, it’s all about YOU!  In your own private room, but with someone available to you at any time for support.

Each session lasts between 60-90 minutes, plus compression and decompression time – which depending on your ears and sinuses will range from 6-16mins. You can lie down, unwind, and even catch a nap while enjoying the benefits.

How Often Should You Try It?

For General Wellbeing: 1-2 time per week is ideal for destressing and maintaining your health.

For Acute Issues: 3-6 times a week can help with quicker recovery.

For Chronic Conditions: Jo will develop a specific protocol to meet your needs, depending on what you need to support or assist.  You’ll see the best results by starting with 20hrs, in the first month if possible, backed up with appropriate nutritional supplementation to enhance your recovery.
